16k Stretch Goal UNLOCKED - Jabari Weather's Limbo
almost 5 years ago – Fri, May 31, 2019 at 01:39:33 AM

Last night we unlocked our 16k Stretch Goal - Jabari Weather's Limbo.

And now in the final hours of the Kickstarter we move to our 17k Stretch Goal - a Limbo by the amazing Steffie De Vaan.

Steffie de Vaan is a Dutch author of role playing books and short stories, who worked on the Changeling the Lost 2nd Edition Corebook, Beckett’s Jyhad Diary forVampire the Masquerade, and Cavaliers of Mars. She loves horror, fantasy, sci-fi stories, and their cross genres in any medium; watching short films and tutorials on YouTube; and inclusive feminism.

Steffie has been my partner in crime at AHP for a couple of years now. We also have a Patreon together where we cook up one mini-rpg game each month. We met while working on Changeling the Lost 2nd Edition together and once we found out we were both Dutchies we met up and became friends! It is very hard for me to make a book without including Steffie nowadays, she's pretty much my missing brain cells when design just-isn't-working and I have such a deep abiding respect for this woman. She's gonna knock this Limbo out of the park.

There are only 5 hours left on the campaign! Wow!

Yesterday I promised to reveal the 18k Stretch Goal if we reached 16k so I am gonna do it. Not sure if we will meet it, but a promise is a promise.

Unrequited: Lost Souls

Like many of you my love for 'fallen' characters was born in my 16 year old imagination filled with the right mix of moody-but-shiny armor and tragic backstories. In Afterlife: Wandering Souls, when your character loses all hope in their journey to the Beyond and slips into despair they become a member of the Unrequited. For Wanderers this is a fate worse than death, it means they're doomed to wander the Tenebris forever without memories and without the chance to move on. As a player it means your character becomes unplayable and quite likely an antagonist for your old Crew.

While writing Afterlife: Wandering Souls it was always an interesting thought experiment for me to ask - well what would an all Unrequited adventure look like? If we reach our 18k Stretch Goal I'll create a short PDF explaining what an Unrequited player character would look like, what features would be available to them, and what they're likely to get up to in the Tenebris.

See you at the finish line!

Greetings,

Liz

15k Stretch Goal UNLOCKED - Free Art Print
almost 5 years ago – Thu, May 30, 2019 at 10:48:16 PM

We just passed out 15k Stretch Goal, which means every backer from the Wanderer tier (€35) upwards gets a free a5 art print with their pledge! After we get all the art in for the book we'll pick our favorite and get it printed up for you!

Now, let's talk about our 16k Stretch Goal a custom Limbo by Jabari Weathers!

Jabari Weathers (they/them) presently resides in Baltimore, Maryland, making fantasy and sci-fi art to keep up their glamor (and because it’s fun). Other things that they enjoy are pen and paper role playing games, singing in public places, and the thoroughly uncanny. You can follow them on TwitterInstagram and Tumblr,

Jabari and I met when I needed art for WITCH: Fated Souls. Their use of colour and contrast is absolutely breathtaking and always a highlight for me when I look at their work. A while later when Jabari told me they were starting game design, I knew I wanted to work together at one point. I'm excited to see what an artist's imagination will bring to a Limbo and I hope you are too!

At 17k we unlock a Limbo by my frequent partner-in-design Steffie de Vaan. I'll tell you more about her Stretch Goal and preview the 18k Stretch Goal if we meet Jabari's goal.

Speak to you soon!

14k Stretch Goal UNLOCKED - Alan Bahr's Limbo
almost 5 years ago – Thu, May 30, 2019 at 07:22:08 PM

Hail Wanderers.

We just passed the 14k mark, which means we've unlocked a custom Limbo by the awesome Alan Bahr.

Alan Bahr is the lead designer and founder of Gallant Knight Games. A game designer best known for the TinyD6 line of games, along with other games such as Cold Shadows, For Coin & Blood, Planet Mercenary, Eorathril, and many more, Alan has been working in the RPG industry for over 5 years, and has over three dozen titles to his name.

Alan and I have worked together for years now and it's been a blast. Looking back at the number of diverse projects we've worked on together makes me so happy. I always love hearing from Alan, because I know it is going to be about some different, special game he's developed and wants me to hear about. I don't think I know a person brimming with more creative ideas than this man and that makes be double excited for whatever Limbo he'll cook up for us.

If we reach 15k every backer at the Wanderer Tier (€35) and above will get a free art print of one of the amazing pieces we have in the book!

You can also see we've added two new potential authors to the Stretch Goals - Jabari Weathers and Steffie de Vaan. We'll tell you more about these amazing authors after we unlock the next stretch goal!

Greetings,

Liz

Three Stretch Goals UNLOCKED!
almost 5 years ago – Thu, May 30, 2019 at 02:34:57 AM

I've slept through a lot of things before, but I can safely say I've never slept through one of my campaigns unlocking 3 stretch goals! Wow! Welcome to all the new Wanderers who've joined us, I hope you enjoy it here in the Tenebris. Our 11k, 12k, and 13k stretch goals are unlocked!

11k unlocked Sarah Doombringer's Limbo! Which means we unlocked all our original Stretch Goal authors! Part of what I love with Kickstarters is how they allow me to work with a larger team than is normally possible with the project my company produces. When authoring a corebook normally it's me and one or two authors. I love working that deeply with two other creative people, but I often miss the diversity of voices that comes with a larger project - honestly, I get tired of hearing myself talk about things. So while I love all the cool extras we get to add to the book, unlocking new authors to add their spin onto a world I've created is one of the most special things for me.

12k unlocked an extra quick reference! Everyone who pledges for a the quick references (either by add-on or a reward tier) will get an additional quick reference, so 3 in total.

13k unlocked a new Limbo. And now to reveal the author for the Limbo...

Satyros Phil Brucato (he / they), aka Satyr, has been publishing professionally in various media since 1989. Best-known to gamers as the co-creator of Mage: The Ascension (including Mage 20th Anniversary Edition), Mage: The Sorcerer’s Crusade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Vampire: The Dark Ages, Changeling: The Dreaming, and Wraith: The Oblivion – as well as the creator of Deliria: Faerie Tales for a New Millennium and Powerchords: Music, Magic & Urban Fantasy – Satyr co-created the urban fantasy film series Strowlers, and has written for Weird Tales, Realms of Fantasy, Steampunk Tales, Witches & Pagans, newWitch Magazine, a variety of RPG publishers, and a host of anthologies, websites, newspapers and blogs. Under the name Cedar Blake, they’ve also released erotica, paranormal romance and metaphysical nonfiction through a variety of publishers.

Classically trained as a Method actor, Satyr incorporates theatre techniques and experience into their RPG work, and also plays bass guitar in the mystic rock group Telesterion. With their wife and business partner Sandra Damiana Swan, Satyr owns Quiet Thunder Productions and releases a variety of multimedia projects. Although they keep a low in-person profile, you can find out more about Satyr and their work at: https://satyrosphilbrucato.wordpress.com/, https://www.patreon.com/philbrucato, http://strowlers.com/, https://twitter.com/PsychotropicOwl, https://telesterion1.bandcamp.com/, https://www.facebook.com/groups/126494504028229/

I am absolutely over the moon to have Satyr on this project. Most people who know me, know what a big impact Mage and Changeling had on my gaming life. They are two games that made me fall in love with rpgs and those beautiful fantasies are still deeply woven into my design DNA. Satyr and I met over social media as many industry people do and I never thought they'd be part of a project I created. I can't wait to read their Limbo!

And the next two goals are revealed! If we hit 14k we'll tell you a bit more about Alan Bahr and reveal the next few Stretch Goals as well.

Speak to you soon Wanderers!

Greetings,

Liz

10k Stretch Goal UNLOCKED - Mabel Harper's Limbo
almost 5 years ago – Thu, May 30, 2019 at 02:31:10 AM

Greetings Wanderers,

And another one bites the dark :D. We've unlocked Mabel Harper's Limbo! I can't wait to see what she brings to the table.

The Kickstarter is almost over and this is when things get really exciting. I am so curious to see how much we'll be able to unlock for this book before the campaign closes. Nearing the end of a campaign is always a bittersweet time for me. Kickstarters are quite some work, so I am really looking forward to taking a few days off, BUT there is also a special sort of excitement tied to a campaign and I'm always sad to see it go.

I'll write a better post mortem about Afterlife: Wandering Souls once the campaign is said and done, but for now let's look at more stretch goals!

Our next stretch goal is a Limbo by the amazing Sarah Doombringer

Sarah Doombringer (she/her) is the author of the tabletop role playing game Velvet Glove and co-author of Bluebeard’s Bride. She has been designing role playing games with Magpie Games since 2016, and has done freelance work for several role playing games, such as Kids On Bikes, The Baby Bestiary 1 & 2, and Kult: Divinity Lost. She got her start in the rpg industry doing illustration and layout.

Sarah has been a guest instructor at Washington University in St. Louis, a guest lecturer at the University of Chicago’s Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality as well as at DePaul University College of Computing and Digital Media, and assisted at simulations for the Harvard Business School. Her artwork has been exhibited in the United States, Australia and Ireland.

Sarah has a degree in Visual Communication from Washington University in St. Louis, and currently lives in St. Louis with her husband, son, and cranky elder cat, Phooka. She can be found at various conventions every year.

I probably can't rightly put into words how excited I am to bring Sarah on this project. We met while working at Contessa together and not only has she become one of my favourite game designers, but she's also a good friend. The weird, mythical, witchy style I know she's going to bring to Afterlife is going to be amazing.

More Stretch Goals?

If we manage to unlock the 12k Stretch Goal we have a few extra surprises planned for 13k. Over the next days I'll keep a keen eye on everything to make sure we reveal them right as the goals are met (unless I'm sleeping of course)!

Greetings,

Liz
